Application process

This page outlines the minimum requirements to become an active MRC volunteer if you are 18 years of age or older. After fully completing all the requirements, you will receive your MRC go-kit supplies. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact us.

Step 1: Apply

Complete Chapter 110 Volunteer Application Form [180KB PDF]

Complete this form for Florida’s Department of Health – then click “Submit” to send electronically or “Print” to print and mail/fax.  Provides sovereign immunity (liability) protection and worker’s compensation coverage while volunteering on approved missions and activities.

Step 2: Fingerprinting and Background Check

Fingerprinting & Background Check
Fingerprints and a background check are required for membership at no cost to the volunteer.


Step 3: Online (Free) Training

Important Note: Be sure to email a copy of the confirmation email from FEMA or the actual training certificate when you have completed the courses above to  If you have already completed these courses for another agency or organization we will accept those certificates.


Step 4: Final Steps Interview and Orientation

The interview and orientation provides an opportunity to learn more about the membership requirements and MRC Sarasota. Some of the topics discussed include:

  • Overview of MRC Membership opportunities and expectations
  • Review MRC Core Competencies
  • Applicant skills and interests
